How Often Should I Wash Wool Diaper Covers?
Here’s a little hint...Since wool is naturally anti-bacterial and self-maintaining, no need to wash your wool covers each time your baby wears them. A few hours drying time between changes and it is ready to wear again!
Generally, wool covers only need to be washed once every 1-2 weeks, unless soiled. See, simple already! =)

Items Needed: Wool diaper cover Sink (basin or bucket) Natural (mild) soap (we use homemade lanolin wool wash soap bars or castile soap) – Do NOT Use Woolite! A drop of favorite essential oil (optional) - lavender is wonderful! Tepid (lukewarm) water Bath towel
Key things to remember about wool care: The combination of heat, agitation, and detergent will shrink your wool and no doubt, break your heart! Keep water temperatures the same when washing and rinsing (85 degrees is ideal for wool), don't twist, wring, or agitate ~ squeeze GENTLY, don't put your wool in the dryer, and our final caution ~ you may become addicted to our wool covers!
Pre-Soak | Spot Clean (if needed)
• First, to release urine salts that coat your wool, rinse or soak wool cover in cool water until all fibers are saturated. Gently squeeze (don’t wring) excess water. This is also a good time to spot clean (with mild soap bar or white vinegar) if covers are soiled.
Wash
• Fill sink, basin or bucket with tepid (lukewarm) water; enough to submerge diaper cover. Add natural (or mild) soap. If using a soap bar, hold bar under the running water while rubbing it in your hands. Swish or agitate water to mix the soap. For fragrance, add a drop of favorite essential oil (optional).
• Add wool cover to the water and gently submerge. Soak 15 minutes or longer. Gently push cover up and down to push water through a time or two (don’t over agitate).
• Remove wool cover from water and gently squeeze (don’t wring) excess water out. Drain sink (basin or bucket).
Rinse
• When rinsing the wool cover, do not shock it with abrupt changes in water temperature. Refill the sink (basin or bucket) with the same temperature water as the wash water was when you removed the cover.
• Submerge wool cover and gently push cover up and down to push water through a time or two (don’t over agitate).
• Remove wool cover from the water and gently squeeze (don’t wring) excess water out. Drain sink (basin or bucket).
Dry
• Place wool cover on towel and roll up “jelly roll style” OR place cover in washer machine and run a “spin/drain cycle” only.
• Lay flat or line dry!
Whew... that WAS easy! =)
